Ana was to question Grey, the young but wealthy entrepreneur in Seattle. Ana finds Grey attractive, but a bit intimidating. At the end of the interview, Ana believed she performed poorly but with no regrets because he will never meet Grey again. It is, however, unfortunate that Grey visits the hardware where Ana works to purchase some items. Ana requests to take some photos to be used in the newspaper article, and he ends up giving her an appointment for a photo shoot.

After the photo shoot, he asks her out for coffee and she agrees. She discovers he is single and not dating, but finds she is less attractive for the entrepreneur. She later receives some copies of books which delights her. While on a drinking spree with her friends, he stumbles on Grey and the drinking continues to beyond her control. When she wakes up, she finds herself in a hotel room together with Grey. Grey expresses his interests of having sex with her. While on a date with him, he asks her to sign an agreement that forbids her from exposing anything that happens between them. He discovers she is a virgin and decides to have sex with her without her signing the agreement. Grey invites her out for supper where she discovers more of his sexual escapades.

She then starts receiving packages from him including a laptop to help her carry out research projects. He requests her to sign other contracts about their sexual relationship but refuses to honor sections of the agreement. She is not comfortable with the idea of having unromantic sex with him and, therefore, decides to run away from him. They meet after her graduation, and she agrees to sign the submissive contract. After getting a job with SAP, she decides to dishonor the agreement. After a demo of the expected punishments for failing to honor the BDSM relationship, she realizes they are incompatible and gives up on the relationship.
